Qualities That Make Books Special

I don't think any author intends to take a long time. It sometimes just happens. But I actually have come to believe that the books that take longer are often the best because the one quality that books will always have over every other medium is distillation, compression of time, the perspective that a writer brings to the work. And those are qualities that make books special. That's what makes a book last.
